Being yourself in a world of Social Media
Your story matters, and it doesn’t need a filter to be beautiful
Social media is everywhere. It’s fun to scroll, post, and share, but it can also make life harder. For young women, the constant pressure to look perfect—flawless makeup, trendy clothes, and the right angle—can feel overwhelming.
Studies, (Aparicio-Martinez et al., 2019), show that social media can lower confidence and increase anxiety, especially when we compare ourselves to others online. Those perfectly edited photos and highlight reels? They’re not real life, but it’s easy to forget that when you’re scrolling.
Imagine a young woman blowing a bubblegum bubble, all dressed up and confident on the outside. But how does she feel inside? Social media often makes us act like everything is fine, even when we’re struggling.
This is where counselling can help. It’s a space to be real—no filters needed. You can talk about what’s bothering you, whether it’s comparing yourself to others, feeling anxious, or just not knowing who you really are. Together, we can work on building your confidence and finding what makes you happy, not what social media says should make you happy.
Social media doesn’t have to control how you feel about yourself. Therapy can help you set boundaries, stop comparing, and focus on what truly matters—being you.
Your story matters, and it doesn’t need a filter to be beautiful. Let’s talk about it.
